Theme ...

Major Theme : Enhancing the Effectiveness of Public Participation in EIA

Environmental Impact Assessment goes hand in hand with individual developmental projects in India as made mention in EIA Notification of May, 1994. The public hearing is made integral part of environmental clearance process after the Notification by Ministry of Environment and Forests, New Delhi in April 1997.

Public participation in early stage of project development facilitates integrating local issues in the developmental activities. Whereas antagonists to this theory propagates that public participation retards development.

These opposing views shall be discussed and deliberated in the Convention.

Thematic Session : Application of Environmental Assessment Tool to Evaluate Cleaner Energy Generation Processes

There are several options available for power generation and individual option is advocated to be cleaner as compared to others. The power generation contributes towards economic growth but result in resource consumption, environmental pollution, rehabilitation and resettlement, landuse changes and impact on biodiversity. The majority of impacts of power generation are amenable to judicious siting and technological intervention.

Environmental Impact Assessment is a potential tool and utilised for evaluating cleaner energy generation options with several system parameters.
