CONSTITUTION OF SOUTH ASIAN REGIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT ASSOCIATION

(SAREAA)

The National Environmental Assessment Associations (hereinafter also referred as NEAA / NEAAs) of Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan represented by their respective Presidents accompanied by their respective delegates and the NEAA of Sri Lanka represented by its Vice President,

TAKING COGNIZANCE of the activities for the establishment of SAREAA since 1996,

Being Convinced of the need to continue providing a regional forum to share practical environmental assessment experiences in South Asia;

Convinced of the necessity of provision of facilities for pooling and transferring information, expertise and other capacity building infrastructure available for environmental assessment in South Asia

Believing that, for the realization of these goals and in the interests of the Environmental Assessment Professionals, there is need for closer cooperation between the Environmental Assessment Professionals of South Asia

CONSIDERING the challenges to enhancing Environmental Assessment Systems in South Asia and the need to devise as well as implement strategies to overcome the same,

REALIZING the need to incorporate harmonization of development imperatives with appropriate environmental management techniques in the Environmental Assessment Process.

Have in consequence decided to establish a Confederation of National Environmental Assessment Associations of the region of South Asia to be known as South Asian Regional Environmental Assessment Association (acronymed SAREAA) and have for this purpose adopted the following Constitution:
